5th Hill Districts Sports Meet: CCpur, Chandel triumphs; Chandel to host 6th Hill Districts Sports MeetKANGPOKPI | Jul 6
The week long fifth edition of Hill Districts Sports Meet 2019 organised by Hill Districts Sports Association Manipur (HIDSAM) and hosted by DSA Sadar Hills at Kangpokpi DHQs under the chief host of ADC Sadar Hills culminated in style today at brig. M. Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi.
Participated by six hill districts including the host district DSA Sadar Hills, DSA Tamenglong, DSA Senapati, DSA Ukhrul, DSA Chandel and DSA Churachandpur, the event was annually organised with an aim to promote unity through sports in the hill districts of the state.
Apart from the chief host Haokholal Hangshing, chairman ADC Sadar Hills, the closing ceremony of the event was attended by ADC Sadar Hills vice chairman. Thangjakam Misao graced the closing ceremony as chief guest while executive members of ADC Sadar Hills BP. Vikas Basnet, member Lunthang Haokip and Paotinlun Chongloi attended as guests of honour and Lunseh Kipgen, chairman Kangpokpi Town Committee as functional president.
Members of KTC and Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship also attended the closing ceremony apart from thousands of people across Kangpokpi district braving the heavy downpour to give their love to the visiting districts to take home and cherish it.
The unfavourable heavy downpour led to players inspection by the dignitaries inside the pavilion but it really failed to kill the spirit of both the finalist as well as the people of Kangpokpi District who impressively surrounded the entire gallery and the playground from all corners.
Earlier in the morning at 8:00 am, the women’s volleyball final match was played between DSA Chandel and DSA Ukhrul which ended in favour of DSA Chandel to snatch away the Champion title from the favourite DSA Ukhrul which had settled with the runner-up prize.
It was a humble start on the part of DSA Churachandpur in men’s football final match amidst heavy shower but the game turned into an aggressive one, running for the prestigious Champion trophy completely ignoring the disturbance of the unfavourable downpour.
Despite hard fought from both sides the first half of the final match ended a goalless draw with both teams having few good chances while DSA CCpur custodian suffered heavy injury on his thigh while daringly saving a dangerous ball just before the halftime.
DSA Churachandpur cameback with better performance in the second half and with more pressure on the front line it managed to break the deadlock in the 57th minute when Ginminthang Hangshing found the net with a rebound air ball which created lots of rigorous pressure on both sides till Gogou Hangshing trimmed down the tempo of DSA Ukhrul by converting a penalty kick in the 71st minute after an accidental handball inside the penalty box on the part of the tough DSA Ukhrul defender.
However, DSA Ukhrul players once again cameback from the devastating situation and managed to pulled back a goal amidst intensely aggressive Ccpur players through Reisangmi Vashum in the 83rd minute and fought hard for the equalizer but luck went in favour of DSA CCpur to seal the game 2-1 in the normal regulation time.
Men’s football champion DSA Ccpur was awarded a rolling trophy donated by (L) Rishang Keishing, an ex-chief minister of Manipur with cash prize of Rs. 1 lakhs while DSA Ukhrul received a trophy with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-.
DSA Churachandpur custodian Mong Hmangte was awarded the best goalkeeper award and his teammate Peter Seiminthang was awarded the top scorer award while Reisangmi Vashum was awarded the Man of the final match and K. Maning Kila of DSA Senapati was awarded the Best Spiker in women’s volleyball.
According to HIDSAM officials, the 6th edition of Hill Districts Sports Meet next year will be held at Chandel District.
