In women’s volleyball semi-final matches earlier this morning at Brig. M. Thomas Ground, DSA Chandel maintained its unbeaten record by defeating the host district DSA Sadar Hills in two straight set to make the cut in the final round.
DSA Sadar Hills, on the other hand, maintained its semi-final exit till this year but their determined efforts and enthusiastic struggled gained much appreciation from the visiting districts.
It was the second semi-final match between DSA Ukhrul and DSA Senapati that created a memorable volleyball event which according to HIDSAM officials will not be able to fade away in the history of Hill District Sports Meet and it will remained one of the finest volleyball match ever since the introduction of the event.
Locking horn for the final berth, DSA Senapati being the defending champion tried hard to retain its prestige of women’s volleyball champion while DSA Ukhrul would like to maintain its unbeaten record so far in the current event and indeed they maintained the record by defeating the defending champion Senapati side after a hard fought and cruised into the final round.
DSA Senapati women volleyball players despite their pinned sized height could be able to spike the ball from any angle jumping the 7 feet tall net which not only attracted a mammoth attention of the audience but was also their advantages over the skilful Ukhrul side.
It was a matter of a point or two only that DSA Senapati had to make a semi-final exit for the first time and gave away the champion title for the best team while it was the professional style of playing on the part of Ukhrul side apart from their skills and talents, the outside support of their enthusiastic football players who unceasingly cheers and chants a motivational slogan and also the brilliant tactical changes made by their coach at the right time and place which really killed the tempo of their opponent side that made Ukhrul side victory over Senapati.
Tomorrow, both the unbeaten team DSA Chandel and DSA Ukhrul will meet in the final at 8:00 am in the morning.
Meanwhile, even if DSA Churachandpur women could not make into the final round of Women’s volleyball, the football team cruised into the Men’s Football final after its impressive 10-1 win over DSA Senapati today in the first men’s football semi-final match.
Maintaining its unbeaten record DSA Churachandpur found an early in the 7th minute through Robinson and Lalsiem added another goal in the 17th minute before Robinson, Lamgoulun and Peter Seiminthang added a goal each in the 20th, 24th and 31st minute respectively while DSA Senapati through its striker Vareiyang pulled back a goal in the 43rd minute to ended the first half 5-1.
Unfortunately, an owned goal greeted DSA Senapati in the second half when Ruvei accidentally scored inside his own net in the 50th minute and the rest was all about Peter Seiminthang of DSA Churachandpur scoring four goals consecutively in the 57th, 75th, 86th and 88th minute respectively to cruise his side into the final round with 10-1 win over devastated DSA Senapati.
Robinson of DSA Churachandpur was awarded Man of the first semi-final match.
The second semi-final match witnessed a goalless draw between DSA Sadar Hills and DSA Ukhrul where the referee had to decide the winner via tie break after the regulation time. In a 4-2 win over DSA Sadar Hills via tie break, DSA Ukhrul custodian Tara Gachuiwo shine beautifully as he made one brilliant save enough for his side to lock horn for the Champion with DSA Churachandpur.
Earlier, Tara Gachuiwo had also made another brilliant save in the regulation time when DSA Sadar Hills striker Songpu failed to convert a penalty kicked in the 34th minute of the first half. In the tie break DSA Ukhrul managed to score four goals while DSA Sadar Hills could managed to score only two.
