IMPHAL | Jun 11
A one-day training programme on implementation of Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities (UDID) project in Manipur was held today at City Convention hall, Imphal.
The programme was organised by department of Social Welfare in collaboration with Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Under secretary, DEPwD, ministry of social justice and empowerment, D.K. Panda said with the implementation of the project one disabled person can have a unique identity number which could help to get the benefit easily.
He said the objective of UDID is to create a national database for persons with disabilities (PwDs) by identifying and issuing a unique disability ID card to every PwD through web-portal. It will benefit those persons with new types of disabilities under enactment of RPwd Act 2016 other than those who are still uncovered on disabilities certificate, he added.
The project will also encourage transparency, efficiency and ease of delivering government benefits to PwDs pertaining to scholarship, skill training, inclusive education, rehabilitation, pension, railway concessions to PwDs across the country. It will also help in tracking physical and financial progress of benefit delivery at all levels of hierarchy of implementation which are from village level, block level, district level, state level and national level, Panda added.
Before the implementation of the project many PwDs failed to get benefits due to lack of data but with the implementation no PwDs will be left out, he assured.
Director, Social Welfare, Ng. Uttam said after the implementation of the project, any disabled can easily register through online without going to office and those without internet facility can get assistance from the office of district chief medical officers. One can go through the website www.swavlambancard.gov.in in order to find out various schemes which are implemented for PwDs, he added.
The programme was attended by district CMOs, district social welfare officers and other stake holders.
