CM of Myanmar’s Magway region shows interest in health tourism in State
A nine-member team from Myanmar led by chief minister of Magway region, Myanmar who reached Imphal on June 9 visited Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Sky Hospital today.
During the visit, the Myanmar team interacted with head of departments from RIMS hospital at RIMS conference hall and later visited Sky hospital, along with principal secretary Health and Family Welfare Manipur, Vumlunmang Vualnam where they were briefed about the facilities available in the said hospitals.
Chairman and chief cardiologist of Sky Group of hospitals, Dr. L. Shyamkishore Singh told media persons that the visit of high level delegates from Myanmar is a moment of pride for Manipur and Sky hospital.
“With the standard of treatment provided in Sky hospital, the cost is less than half of the charges in other country and the quality of care that Sky hospital is providing will attract patient from Myanmar without any publicity or advertisement in Myanmar” he said.
Though he had been concentrating on finding and treating heart problems of people from Manipur and North eastern region of the country first, Shyamkishore also expressed his willingness to treat patients from other neighbouring countries and at par with the treatment given to North-eastern part of India.
Medical superintendent of RIMS, while presenting detailed information about the performance of the hospital during the last five years, informed that the hospital is going to have Air ambulance service in the near future.
Speaking to media persons during the visit, chief minister of Myanmar’s Magway region, Aung Moe Nyo informed that only well to do family in Myanmar can afford treatment abroad in Thailand and Singapore which is expensive.
As such an initiative had been taken up to build the cooperation of the Myanmar’s with Manipur government where patients and students from Myanmar can join the hospitals and medical institutions in Manipur.
Aung said, “I am here to get some information about medical facilities and after my observation I think the hospitals we visited are reliable and there are many specialities and the treatments here will be very effective”.
Informing that the treatment cost in Manipur will be much cheaper and affordable when compared with the expenditure in Bangkok and Singapore, Aung said “I have to tell the patients in my country that the hospitals in Manipur are reliable and operation theatre in Sky hospital is well equipped for cardiac surgery with modern equipment.
