Miscreants torch school van
A school van owned by one Thaonaojam Iboyaima, 45, son of Th. Merajao of Sawombung block gate, Imphal East, was torched by miscreants yesterday night at Sawombung.
It is said that van is service of SL Kidz Arena located at two different places which is at Laiwangma and Kongpal Khaidem Leikai, Imphal East.
Speaking to media, Iboyaima recalled that at about 4.30 pm yesterday, some miscreants took photographs of his van which was parked near his residence but did not take it seriously and did not expect that any of such kinds would happen to him. At about 11.30 pm, he found his van was burning near his gate.
“I usually park my van at the courtyard of my house but the vehicle was taken a little near the gate by those miscreants and was set into fire,” he added.
Still in shock with the incident, he said he does not have any enmity with any organisation or any individual for being targeted. When he along with locals tried to put off the fire, one A-Star (car) and a Honda Dio (two wheeler) were seen around the incident and fled from the spot, said Iboyaima.
Decrying the incident, a sit-in-protest was staged today at community hall of Sawombung, Imphal East by representatives of local meira paibis.
Secretary of meira paibi Sawombung, Thaonaojam (O) Shanti said locals including meira paibis strongly condemned the incident happened. “Iboyaima is the sole bread earner of his family and surviving with the school van service” she said.
She further stated that the miscreants must clarify immediately. Instead of burning down the van they could have brought the issue on a negotiating table if there is any misunderstanding with Iboyaima and the miscreants, she added.
If the miscreants failed to clarify at the earliest, local meira paibies warned that it would intensify its agitation.
General secretary of All Manipur School Students’ Transporter Association (AMSSTA), Jimmy Tongbram said there was some misunderstanding with one proscribed underground group. The reason of the incident might be related with the issue that has happened during the month of February.
A case has been registered at Lamlai police station for further investigation.
Mention may be made that one school van owned by one Thingbaijam Sunil was also vandalised with gunshots on the night of May 4 at Lamlai Mayai Leikai. The van service runs for Hill Valley English Academy, Phouwabi, Lamlai. Till date no organisation has claimed responsibility for the incident.
