Student found hanging inside MU HostelIMPHAL | May 25
A 4th semester student of Manipur University was found hanging dead inside his hostel room, in the morning today.
The deceased have been identified as Lunminlal Kipgen, 22, son of Paokhomang Kipgen of L. Soungphel village under Saikul sub-division of Kangpokpi district.
Lunminlal was pursuing his graduation in Tourism and Hospitality management under Bachelor of Vocational Degree at Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development. He stayed alone in room number 26 of Men’s Hostel number 2-Koubru Hostel.
He was found hanging with a lightweight blanket from the ceiling fan in his room. There was also a small cut on his left wrist. His body was found slightly bloated and partially decomposed. He was also found wearing his uniform. Forensic experts who took part in the investigation opined that the incident might have taken place around two days back. Although a suicide note was found near inside the room, the content of the note is not known till the time of filing this report.
As told by one of the hostellers, the death of the student came to light when they try to check on him as he was no seen since two days back and a foul smell also started coming from his room.
The hosteller said that they called him multiple times and banged on the door as he was not responding. “We were also suspecting that something bad is happening because of the foul smell,” narrated the hosteller.
As he was not responding, we pushed the door which is locked from inside hard enough to give us a peek into his room and subsequently saw him in a hanging position, he said and added that they informed the caretaker and warden immediately upon noticing the body and subsequently the police was informed.
Mahesh Angom, class representative, B. Voc., told the IFP that Lunminlal did not turn up at his internship place at KB Enterprises since May 18. He was doing his internship for tour operator at the place.
The mortal remains of the deceased have been handed over to the family members after conducting post mortem examination at RIMS. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident for further investigation.
Meanwhile Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) expressed deep condolences over the demise of university student, Lunmimlal Kipgen, 22, son of Paokhomang Kipgen of L. Soungphel village under Saikul sub-division of Kangpokpi district.
A press statement issued by MUSU president Keisham Lebanan said that the union shared the grief of the bereaved family members. The union also prayed for his soul to rest in peace in its heavenly abode, it said.
