DM varsity 2nd semester students to boycott examsIMPHAL | May 21
The second semester students of the recently upgraded Dhanamanjuri University announced that they will boycott their second semester exam scheduled to be held from May 23.
Today, the students of DM College of Arts took out to the college gate against the delay in declaration of examination results for 1st semester exam.
Speaking to media persons, one representative of the students, Mutum Tennyson, said that the students have repeatedly approached the Controller of Examinations to declare results of the 1st semester examination, which was conducted in January last. The controller also gave multiple assurances. However, the examination results have not been declared yet, he noted.
He also said that marksheet for 1st semester is required in filling up forms for 2nd semester examination. However the form fill-up was done in rush and yet marksheets are given to students, added the student.
Tennyson further asserted that they need a gap of at least seven days from the result declaration date and the day of commencement of exams so that they know which subject to focus on.
Decrying the authority for fixing 2nd semester examination dates even before declaration 1st semester results, he asserted that the 2nd semester students will refrain from appearing the exam scheduled on May 23.
Meanwhile, controller of examination, DM University, Asem Nabachandra, clarified that the delay has arisen because of the lack of manpower to evaluate the answer sheets.
He conveyed that the concerned authorities are all putting efforts for timely conduct and declaration of exams. There are departments with PG course which is run by only three teachers. As such, the student-teacher ratio is very unfavourable and both student and teacher community suffer, he pointed out.
The examination for 4th semester of Manipur University will commence from June 6 and it cannot go parallel with the exams of DM University because of the lack of manpower to set questions, for evaluation and other examination related activities, he said while asserting that the 2nd semester exam will not be postponed and will commence as scheduled.
He appealed to the students to appear the examination, lest it will be a loss for them. The controller also assured that, with experience from this year, such inconveniences will not be caused to the students in the future.
