World Malaria day held in TmlTAMENGLONG | May 18
World Malaria Day was held today at Shekinuh Inn Tamenglong district headquarters under the theme “Zero Malaria starts with me”.
The programme was organised by District Health Society under National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme Tamenglong.
Zonal education officer- Tamenglong, Gaidonlung Gangmei and chief medical officer Tamenglong, Dr Chambo Gonmei and district malaria officer Tamenglong, Dr Felix Kamei attended as chief guest, guest of honour and president of the function respectively.
In his speech as chief guest, Gaidonlung urged all citizens of Tamenglong to cooperate with the health department and vice versa to eradicate and become a free malaria district.
In his guest of honour, CMO Tamenglong, expressed his gratitude to the malaria department for working sincerely and to be able to achieve good progress with no reports of death report from malaria disease since the last two years.
According to the Dr Chambo, there are four types of malaria, in which two types including PV and PF are common in Manipur and particularly in Tamenglong.
He also urged citizen of Tamenglong to keep the environment clean, drain up water properly so that breeding of mosquito can be checked.
In his key note address, District Malaria Officer Tamenglong informed that there is no dead report from malaria disease for the last two years.
He said that WHO is aiming to eliminate malaria in 35 countries including India by the year 2030. Manipur state is also striving hard to be free malaria first state in India by 2021.
During the observance of world malaria day the health society Tamenglong awarded credential award to best performance ASHAs and male health workers one each from PHCs, CHC under Tamenglong and Noney district.
