‘Love is the ultimate manifestation of cultural harmony’
IMPHAL | May 17 : “Human love is a great unifier. It can conquer everyone irrespective of one’s geographic and ethnic affiliations. We should remind ourselves that when we strive towards building cultural harmony, its ultimate manifestation is love,” said R.V. Mingthing.
The nonagenarian former minister was speaking as the guest of honour, on the 61st foundation day celebration of The Cultural Forum, Manipur, which was held here today at the auditorium of the JNMD Academy. The celebration also marks the culmination of the year-long Diamond Jubilee celebration of the forum.
Expressing his gratitude for inviting him on the occasion, Mingthing urged the forum to ensure wider participation of public from different ethnic groups, more particularly from the hill areas. Stressing that the bond of unity between the hill and the valley people must be preserved for all the time, he said, one must uphold the virtue of unity in diversity.
Exalting the work of the forum and its members for their selfless dedication, Manipuri dance maestro, R.K. Prof. Huirem Behari, speaking as the president of the function said, the present office bearers of the forum are following the legacy of many a departed soul, who selflessly dedicated themselves in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Manipur. “The forum has been giving recognition in the form of awards to individuals who have shown excellence in various fields such as literature, dance and music etc,” he added.
Behari recounted that the forum was instituted 60 years ago at the outhouse of the late MP, Ningthoukhongjam Tombi Singh, who was also the founder president, and R.K.
