Andro police begins investigation into poll violenceIMPHAL | Apr 25
A day after poll related violence occurred few metres away from 7/32-Yambem (C) polling station under Andro assembly constituency, Andro police has started investigating the crime by registering an FIR number 10 (4) 2019 under section 325, 427 and 34 of the IPC.
Joint secretary, Manipur State Council, All India Youth Federation, Khwairakpam Ramananda of Ningthoukhong lodged a complaint at Andro police station urging for necessary legal action against the culprits behind the alleged attack.
As per the complaint, Ramananda along with four other supporters of Communist Party of India candidate, Dr Nara, namely Kh. Ropesh, B. Shantikumar Sharma, Th. Bhanumati and L. Sumatibala were waiting in Ramananda’s vehicle ECO van bearing registration number MN05A-8556 for the CPI candidate Dr. Nara to come out from 7/32-Yambem (C) polling station at Yambem Upper Primary School around 10:40 am. They were 100 metres away on the east of the polling station. During that time, a huge number of villagers who identified themselves as BJP workers turned up and pulled out the occupants of the vehicle. After snatching away the key, the alleged BJP supporters assaulted Ramananda without assigning any reason, it said.
It also mentioned that time and again, the villagers shouted at the occupants of the vehicle, “Why are you coming to disturb the poll process which is going on smoothly?”
According to the complaint, the villagers asked the occupants of the vehicle to get out of the vehicle and walk from there while asking Ramananda to drive the vehicle upto a distance of about 200 metres.
During that time, one Bolero and a Maruti Van full of BJP supporters overtook Ramananda and blocked his passage, it added.
Then the remaining culprits came to the spot and assaulted him for the second time and started pelting stones at CPI supporters, causing physical injury, said the complaint lodged by Ramananda while pointing out that his vehicle was also damaged substantially in the scene.
It may be mentioned that under IPC section 325-punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, the criminals are punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine.
The IPC section 427, about mischief causing damage to an amount of fifty rupees states that “whoever commits mischief and thereby causes loss or damage to the amount of fifty rupees or upwards, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.”
Also under IPC section 34 specified for acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention, each of such persons is liable for that act in the same manner as if it were done by him alone.
