Man found slaughtered, locals dismantle house of accused Pradhan
After a man was found slaughtered to death in the morning today at Bamon Kampu, a mob dismantled the house of the pradhan of the area, over the suspicion that he is the culprit behind the murder.
The pradhan is accused of attempting to cover up his extra marital affair with the wife of the deceased.
The dead body of the deceased, Khunjamauym Arun, 37, son of Kh. Sanajaoba of Bamon Kampu, Imphal East was found lying at a paddy field near his house in the morning.
According to police, three wounds were found on his abdomen. It has been suspected that he was stabbed by a pointed weapon and his throat was also cut open by a sharp weapon. It appeared that the body was brought to the spot after he was killed.
Locals alleged that pradhan of Bamon Kampu gram panchayat, Naosekpam Rabi, 50, is the main accused behind the murder of Arun.
It is also alleged that Rabi and wife of the deceased, Helen, 25, have been into an extra marital relationship for the past many years.
Arun is a daily wage worker and an active worker of the said Pradhan. He is survived by two sons.
According to the mother of the deceased, Gomti, she came across Arun along with Rabi in the afternoon at Irilbung bazar. Later at about 8 pm in the evening, Arun returned home and went into his room. As usual, she asked him to take dinner but instead of having his meal he asked her “to see his son for the last time,”she narrated.
She further said that Arun told her that he is going to get killed by two unknown persons who are working for Rabi. He also prayed to his mother and touched her feet before getting out of the house, she further said lamenting over the outcome.
As Arun do not return till late night, Gomti along with some family members went to search for him but failed to find any traces, she added.
While she was doing her chores in the morning today, locals came to inform her that one dead body was found lying at the paddy field adjacent to their house. When she reached the spot, she found out that it was Arun’s dead body, Gomti added.
Father of the deceased, Sanajaoba said he was aware that his son was with Rabi yesterday. He went to Rabi’s house and asked him to come along with him at the spot where the dead body was found, he said. When Rabi came with Sanajaoba to his house, he went inside after asking Rabi to wait outside for a few minutes, he said. When he came out Rabi was nowhere to be seen, he stated. It was later found out that Rabi had directly gone to Irilbung police station for some other case, he added.
After the body was recovered and admitted at JNIMS morgue for autopsy, the locals conducted a public meeting and later blocked Irilbung road for some hours condemning the incident.
Meanwhile, some locals came up with the information that blood marks were found on vehicles owned by Rabi, suggesting that it could be strong evidence concerning the murder. Tensions ran high among the locals and a mob dismantled the residence of Rabi in the evening today.
The family and locals have reportedly expressed that they will not accept the body until the culprits involved in the case are not booked. It has also been alleged by locals that Rabi is a womanizer.
A case has been registered at Irilbung police station for further investigation and the body has been admitted at JNIMS morgue.
