Man found dead under mysterious circumstances
A 46 year old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances today at Yarou Bamdiar which falls under the jurisdiction of Nambol police station. The victim was identified as Phijam Muhindro, son of Ph. Nodiyachand, resident of Takyel Kolom Leikai.
It is said that he was found murdered by a sharp weapon, as several marks of blades were found on his upper part of his body, at his maxilla, neck and dorsal part of the neck.
His dead body lying near Mori channel was noticed by morning joggers along Yarou Bamdiar road today at early morning. Mention may be made that blood stains were found on the ground in a distance of 30 metres away from the spot where the body found. It is suspected that the body was dragged towards the spot after being killed.
A team of Nambol police rushed to the spot for investigation, followed by a team of forensics to recover the body. It has been now admitted at JNIMS morgue for autopsy. A case has been registered at the concerned police station for further investigation in connection with the murder.
Later in the afternoon, ‘Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Ph. Muhindro’ was formed against the incident.
The JAC along with the locality including family members of the deceased staged a protest by blocking national highway Imphal to Jiribam road at Sagolband Takyel Kolom Leikai, demanding to give befitting punishment and book the culprit(s) involved in the murder of Phijam Muhindro.
Protestors blocked the road chanting slogans such as ‘culprit must be booked immediately’, ‘we condemned brutal killing of Muhindro’ etc.
Phijam ongbi Renuka, wife of the deceased told reporters that yesterday Muhindro came and parked his car beyond his gate after dropping his daughter for private coaching. He phoned her without entering the house stating that he could be late as he had to meet somebody. She recalled that she last saw her husband heading towards the main road by foot after parking the car near the gate.
Later when she tried to call him at around 9 pm, his mobile phone was found switched off. “We are a small family, for what reason was he brutally killed, I want justice and the culprit must be booked immediately”, she lamented.
Speaking to media, convenor of JAC, Leikhuram Kanta Meitei said Muhindro is survived by his wife and 11 year-old daughter. The committee strongly condemned the brutal killing and also resolved that the authority concerned must book the culprit (s) within 24 hours, failing which an intensified movement will be initiated.
The government should also give assistance to the family members as Muhindro was the sole bread winner of the family with his small business, he added.
