82.75 percent voters turnout in State LS poll
Senapati records the highest and Jiribam the lowest

In the recently concluded parliamentary election for Manipur, as much as 82.75 percent of total electors exercised their democratic right of franchise to elect their representative, informed chief electoral officer of Manipur PK Singh during a press conference held today evening at the CEO’s conference hall.
“Senapati district recorded the highest voter turnout with 92.74 percent, and Jiribam the lowest with 68.21 percent,” he said.
Speaking to media personnel, PK Singh stated that altogether 16,04,659 voters out of total 19,39,244 electors of the State cast their votes in the 17th Lok Sabha election. “The poll percentage has increased by 2.67 % compared to last Lok Sabha election; and interestingly, the turnout of female voters is comparatively higher than that of male voters,” he added.
A total of 7,53,709 out of total 9,28,626 electors in inner Manipur parliamentary constituency (IMPC) that is 81.16 percent of voters exercised their franchise yesterday, the CEO noted and stated that highest turnout of voters was in 2-Heingang with a turnout of 91.13 percent and the lowest was in 9-Thangmeiband with a total turnout of 71.86 percent.
On the other hand, inclusive of the re-poll figures, as much as 8,50,950 out of total 10,10,618 voters in outer Manipur parliamentary constituency (OMPC) exercised their franchise with an overall tally of 84.2 percent, he said.
Regarding the complaints received by the CEO office and returning officer about booth capturing at different polling stations in inner seat election on April 18, the CEO asserted that the RO will definitely send recommendation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for fresh polls at 6/10 and 6/20 at Kyamgei as the polling was not completed. The re-poll should be recommended based on the post-poll scrutiny; and the RO and observer are going through every complaints and applications. The re-poll is likely to be held on April 22, he added.
PK Singh also pointed out that there were altogether 339 all women polling stations and 67 model polling stations and one polling station, 15/32 at Lamlong Higher Secondary School was completely manned by PWDs in the 17th Lok Sabha election for the State.
All polling stations in 58-Churachandpur, 14-Yaiskul and 26-Bishnupur were all handled by women, he noted and observed that the all women polling stations were better managed and there were very less amount of complaints. The CEO office also received a letter of appreciation from the National Commission for Women praising the efforts of the office to showcase women power, he cited.
There were a total seizure of contraband items and cash is Rs 37.55 crore in connection with the election since the announcement of the election on March 10. The seizure amount is the highest in northeast exceeding the next second highest Assam by more than two times, he said and added that cash amounting up to Rs 91.62 lakh, around 43,500 litres of liquor of around Rs 43.75 lakh worth, drugs and narcotics items of worth Rs 31.38 crore, 15.17 kg of gold and precious metals of Rs 4.82 crore were seized hitherto.
The CEO maintained that reports were also compiled regarding the voting of cadres of proscribed outfits under Suspension of Operation (SoO). Maximum efforts were made to confine them in their designated camps and when they came out to vote, proper documentation was carried out through photographs and videos, he conveyed.
PK Singh also expressed gratefulness that governor Najma Heptullah has also transferred her vote in Manipur and voted at11/34 TG Higher Secondary yesterday.
In addition to all these, the CEO continued his review of the election that all political parties were cooperative towards the MCMC. They all applied for permissions and happily withdrew advertisements if permission is not given by the MCMC. BJP had applied for 14 videos and eight audio clips and total cost recurred was around Rs. 45 lakh. INC applied for two videos and one audio and cost recurred is Rs 1.33 lakh. NEIDP applied for one audio costing Rs 25,000, he said.
Counting of votes will be held on May 23 in which 34 counting halls will be used and fresh observer will arrive, the CEO intimated.
