IMC corporator served Show Cause notice
IMPHAL | Apr 13
The district election officer of I-IMPC has served a show cause notice to corporator of ward No.2 who is also a BJP member, for violation of election Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The DEO/returning officer of 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Naorem Praveen Singh has asked the corporator to provide a Show Cause for using machinery (JCB) in the cleaning of a drainage area at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai near Youth Centre, Imphal West district.
A written clarification was asked from the corporator within 48 hours by the election officer.
The show cause notice was served to Priyojit according to a representation by secretary of MPCC and chairman of Model Code of Conduct Implementation Sub-Committee MPCC, Md. Siraj Ahmed.
Meanwhile Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) had in a press conference that they had lodged a complaint to the district election officer for serving show cause notice.
Vice president cum spokesperson MPCC, Harisor Goswami said that a complaint was lodged against the cutting the iron grill fencing around the compound of Hatta Kangjeibung for public meeting during arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And also request to furnish a copy of permission issued for conducting public meeting on April 7 at Hatta Kangjeibung to the district election officer.
He said, “Hatta Kangjeibung is a valuable public property, and damaging five iron grills of public property for organising the public meeting is damaging public property.”
Goswami, in seemingly mockingly terms, also stated that it is the first time in Manipur that people who want to go away from a meeting were blocked and that too by locking the gate. “It is a violation of human rights,” he said.
He further asserted that the CAB 1955 has been amended nine times from 2015, but people were never against the amendment because there was no such points that people did not like. On the other hand CAB 2016 was on religion and particularised 3 countries, such points raged people and compelled them to stand against CAB 2016.
