Voting Rights, Not for Sale
By Kh. Ibomcha
Lets stop living with the ‘taken for granted’ type of attitude. Be more reflective and realistic equipping yourself so as to see the material realities that shape your life. What you have been today is the product your past life defined by those political class, ruling the state. Hence, to make a better today, you need to go back to yesterday and rectify the wrongs they did to you. It is a must, and by doing so, you can achieve the ultimate aim of human life—the achievement of freedom.
Now it is election time, a time for the people to create their destiny, a rare chance that comes once every five years in Indian political system. So, citizens should be very careful while choosing their representative who is going to represent you there in Delhi after the election.
Do not look at their false promises as seen in their manifestos, expensive campaigns and speeches. Instead of that, look at what they did in the past and calculate wisely what it would be like if they are voted or voted back to power.
It was during the 15-year regime of the Congress party that many innocent people were killed in the name ‘security concerns’. Whose security are they talking about and referring to, we do not know. But it is more than clear that this security they are talking is not about the security of our own people? For, every time they talk about security we lose our sons or daughters.
Hope, you do not forget how they killed Manorama after being gangraped and who sat on the chair at that time. No need to recount how Sanjit-Rabina were killed by Manipur commandos under Ibobi regime. Hatpa natradi uppai leitre ( no choice but to kill) was what Ibobi said after the episode. Does it sound democratic?
You look at the eyes of those widows and mothers whose husbands and sons were killed extra judicially, do you see democracy? When you look into the eyes of the Congress men delivering public speeches about democracy, peace, love and freedom to woo the people, you will see a pack of lies being popped out. Do you think they will review the armed forces special powers act 1958 as put down in their manifesto?
Voting for them is an injustice to your own people, including youself. They are only coming with new lies.Close your eyes and ask yourself whether what they are saying in public speeches and what they have written down in their manifestos are true or not, your lived experiences and inner being will tell you “they are just lying to you as they have been doing to you since the day you know what politics is all about”.
Coming to BJP, you again have to ask yourself ‘do we have the right to freedom of expression under the BJP, the current dispensation?’ “ Psst. Look at Kishorchand Wakhemcha, he has been left to rot in the jail under NSA for criticizing our CM.” Doesn’t it speak volumes about your god damn right to freedom of expression?
What is the difference between hatpa natradi upai leite and university dabu raid toudradi kadaida touni? In both cases, we see a Hilter in them straddled by indian leaders from Delhi whose principal aim is to dehumanise Kanglei people to facilitate continuation of their rule over us.
The BJP candidate, RK Ranjan, openly appealed to the people to let Narendra Modi come back to power again in his election campaign when some BJP central leaders were giving assurance to the people of North East that if BJP comes back to power CAB will be back to protect the identity of the indigenous people of the North East.
Making the CAB come back and protecting the indigenous people of the NE is self contradictory. It is like saying to stand straight in circle.
So, now, we have two major political parties before us begging us to send their candidates to the Lok Shaba. One is famous for killing innocent people , while the other is supporting Indian plots like CAB attempting to completely wipe out indigenous population and replace them with imported Hindus.
In my assessment giving power either to BJP or Congress is nothing less than feeding milk to a giant snake that is going to swallow us up soon. Nonetheless, If you want to vote them, the choice is still yours.
But there are other parties also other than the two mentioned above, in which CPI is included among others. Most of them speak about new politics where there will be more freedom, peace and development.
Their promises seem to be comparatively a little genuine as these candidates have never been a part of any ruling dispensation oppressing the people in the past. But the question is how far they can translate their words given to the people into reality as they lack a ground to stand on. Among them except CPI candidate Dr Nara, they do not have a firm political ideology they will be guided after being elected.
If we really like to bring about a change in the society, if we want our continued existence as a people, let’s cast our vote to the right person.
Let’s stop selling our voting rights, even if they try to buy us.
