MPCC president ridicules BJP’s claim of winning more than 300 seats in LS poll
Manipur Pradesh Congress President (MPCC) president Gaikhangam has ridiculed the claim of the BJP that they will secure more than 300 seats in the 17th Lok Sabha election.
He was speaking to media persons at the sidelines of inspection visit to public meeting venue of the Congress party at Hapta Kangjeibung.
Gaikhangam remarked that the nation is witnessing dark days under the BJP regime. “It is very unfortunate that the people are not allowed to express their thoughts freely under the BJP led government. Such conduct of the government is worse than during the colonial era of the British,” he added.
The MPCC president affirmed that it might lead to sedition if one criticise the state harshly but there should be no harm in criticising the government. However, the BJP led government is using repressive measures to gag the people including media persons whenever they voice their opinion against the government, he asserted while adding that under the BJP rule, democracy is practised only when the people remain silent.
Gaikhangam said that Rahul Gandhi is the saviour to liberate the people from the clutches of such repressive measures of the BJP led government. Moreover, people have expressed opinions in various meetings held across the country that the nation will have its downfall if the BJP continue to rule, he added.
While expressing doubt whether BJP would be able to secure even 200 seats in such a current trend, Gaikhangam stated that it must be a daydream for the BJP to claim such a large number.
Taking part in the interaction, Congress Legislature Party leader and former chief minister O. Ibobi claimed that the Congress party always make sure that the party is successful in fulfilling its commitments and what it has promised to the people in its election manifestos.
Regarding the fielding of candidates, the CLP leader affirmed that candidates for both inner and outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies will soon be announced as the chief electoral officer has already issued a definite time schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha election.
The duo also appealed to the people to take part in the public meeting as the meeting is not only meant for the Congress party and workers but for the people of Manipur as a whole.
