Patient alleges RIMS authority for delaying operation twiceIMPHAL | Mar 19
A patient who was admitted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for respiratory problem has today alleged of mistreatment by the hospital authority by postponing his operation schedule twice even after being taken to operation theatre.
In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club yesterday, N. Pishak Singh, 50, of Kakching Turel Wangma Ningthou Paren said he was admitted to RIMS on January 2, 2019 with the complaint of cough and shortness of breath associated with fever. He was treated in respiratory medicine ward and then transferred to Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS).
The department fixed for an operation on February 11 but got postponed after he was taken to operation theatre due to unavailability of ICU bed, he stated. The next operation was then scheduled for February 26, but the same thing happened again even in the next operation schedule, he lamented.
“This is harassment to patients and is so unbecoming of RIMS, which is planning to upgrade the hospital to AIMS level, cannot even provide enough number of beds in ICU” Pishak alleged.
Unsatisfied with the medical treatment by this doctor of RIMS, he stated that he consulted another doctor, of which, the latter after examining his case found that surgery was not necessary.
He said his doctor, Dr. Th. Chito had suggested for operation at Raj Medicity but he declined to do so because of his financial situation.
Pishak said he has not undergone any surgery as of now but have been feeling better and has no further complications. He however urged RIMS authority to clarify with genuine reasons for troubling ailing patients waiting for operation.
Dr. Th. Chito on the other hand has clarified that he himself was ready for the operation but it got postponed from department of Anaesthesia. They don’t have authority to undergo operation once it is being rescheduled from this department, he said.
Chito further stated that the patient first approached Raj Medicity for the said operation but as the amount for operation was high in the private health firm, he opted to come to RIMS.
“Being my patient, I know that repeated delay of operation has frustrated him. So I offered him of doing the operation at Raj Medicity free of cost. But he didn’t accept it,” he stated.
Dr. Chito also on consulting another doctor by the patient said different doctors have different opinion and according to his understanding and knowledge, he advised him for operation.
