Cong, BJP gears up for LS poll
Cong to start campaign from 20, BJP in next few days

With the 17th Lok Sabha election dates announced, both national parties BJP and Congress party have rolled up their sleeves as state leaders are reportedly stationed outside the state finalise their candidates lists in consultation with their national party leaders.
According to sources from BJP Manipur Pradesh, 16 individuals including vice president of BJP Manipur Pradesh and retired police officer, Th Basanta; spokesperson R.K. Ranjan; spokesperson, Ch. Bijoy; former speaker and former president, H. Borbabu; former-MLA and vice-president, Salam Joy and national vice president of BJP Mahila Morcha, A. Sharda amongst others have applied for BJP ticket for contesting election from the inner Manipur parliamentary constituency.
On the other hand, 10 individuals including ex-MLA Khashim Ruiva; former director of NEC, Kh. Siile Anthony; ex MP and BJP spokesperson, Kim Gangte; vice president, Benjamin Mate among others have applied for BJP tickets for the outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.
The sources also disclosed that 13 prominent figures including spokesperson of Congress party and MPP will be joining the BJP ahead of election along with around 100 supporters. They further revealed that chief minister, Nongthombam Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president, Ksh. Bhabananda will be attending parliamentary board meeting which will be held from March 15 onwards at New Delhi for preliminary discussion about fielding candidates.
Candidates for some states are likely to be announced for first phase in the meeting which will be attended by BJP national leaders and chief ministers of BJP governed states and presidents of state units.
The meeting is most likely to be held at BJP headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, New Delhi, the source added.
Mentioning about poll preparations, the source noted that the party is fighting for the polls starting at the micro level, while maintaining that in addition to national, regional, state, district, mandal, shakti and booth committees the organisation has added a new committee as a strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha election to consolidate voters and workers. It affirmed that the BJP as an organisation has been preparing for the polls in their organisational structure itself.
The BJP-led coalition government in the state is completing two years on March 15 and the election campaign was supposed to be kicked off on the day with the celebration of its completing two years, our sources stated and added that it has been postponed as the chief minister and state president will be out of station. Campaign for the polls will be started with celebration for completion of two years of governance within next few days and is most likely to be kicked off by a union minister, he added.
Meanwhile, another source from Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has also started preparations for the coming of national president Rahul Gandhi for kick starting election campaign on March 20 for the 17th Lok Sabha election.
It may be mentioned here that nine individuals including ex-MLA Ng Bijoy; ex-MLA O Joy; sitting MP Dr Th Meinya; retired O. Nabakishore, etc. are competing for Congress tickets for contesting election from inner Manipur parliamentary constituency while seven individuals including retired IAAS, Sword Vashum; retired IRS officers, Tongmang Haokip; W Laikholam Hangshing, etc. have applied for Congress tickets for contesting election from outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.
The MPCC president and opposition MLA Gaikhangam is reportedly staying in Delhi after attending Congress Working Committee meeting at Ahmedabad while former chief minister and Congress Legislature Party leader O. Ibobi has also rushed to Delhi on Wednesday to meet party leaders. There is a speculation that the state leaders may pertain to finalising the MP candidates to be fielded by the party.
