Tml district hospital suffering from lack of specialists, shortage of water
Even though the district administration has attained its centenary, Tamenglong and Noney districts still do not have any specialist doctor at the district hospital Tamenglong and PHC Noney.
With no options left, medical officer of Tamenglong has to refer the patients to other well equipped hospital in the state capital. District hospital Tamenglong has referred at least seven patients to Imphal for further treatment within this year due to lack of specialist doctors in the district hospital Tamenglong.
As many as 1072 patients were registered for medical treatment in the district hospital Tamenglong in the month of January and February till date.
Another issue being plaguing the district hospital Tamenglong is the shortage of water. Doctors and nurse quarters are facing the same problem. This was ventured out exclusively during the independent survey conducted by this reporter in the health sector.
Speaking to this reporter, chief medical officer, Tamenglong, Dr Chambo Gonmei said that at least 49 doctors were posted in both Tamenglong and Noney districts. Out of the 49 doctors, at least 20 doctors were posted at district hospital Tamenglong, he said. However, the two doctors left for PG training and one doctor took maternity leave while the rest doctors are doing their duty in full swing, Chambo informed.
He said that three doctors were posted now at Tousem PHC, PHC Oinamlong- 3, PHC Tamei- 6, PHC Khoupum- 4, PHC Noney- 6, PHC Haochong- 3 and another 6 doctors posted CHC Nungba.
Interestingly, two doctors identifying as one Dr Philipa Yumkhaibam who was transferred as MO PHC Haochong since December 11, 2018 has not yet joined back and another Dr Surjit also is yet to joined though he was transferred in Tamenglong.
Chief medical officer, Tamenglong, Dr Chambo Gonmei said that now Tamenglong and Noney district has sufficient Medical Officer (MO); however, lack of specialist doctor has forced them to refer the patient to state capital.
He said the district urgently needs general surgeon, orthopaedic surgeon, paediatrician, psychiatrist and ophthalmologist to run the hospital in full swing and the burdens of the people will lessen it and the district hospital alone can conduct screening for differently abled person.
The health department has planned to buy medical equipment under Hill Area Development Programme to run the district hospital in full swing, he added. He also hopes that the district hospital Tamenglong will run in full swing and referring of the patient to state capital for further treatment will no longer continue and no one should die on the road while going to get medical treatments.
He also informed that there is no permanent water solution for district hospital building and for the quarters of doctors and nurses. He said that the district hospital is running shortage of water every day.
In the meantime, one patient party who did not want to show his identity appealed the concerned authority to speed up the JSSK and also speed up the refund money for health card user.
