MANPAC declares February 12 as Dooms DayIMPHAL | Feb 11
With tensions running extremely high over the possibility of passing the contentious bill at Rajya Sabha, the Manipur People against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (MANPAC) declared February 12, 2019 as D-Day (Dooms Day) and appealed all the people of the state to intensify tomorrow’s agitation by hoisting black flags.
In a press conference held today at office of MANPAC, Checkon Imphal East, convenor MANPAC, Yumnamcha Dilip said that people of the state has been agitating against CAB, 2016 fearing that the bill may get passage in the on-going budget session of Rajya Sabha particularly on February 11 or 12. “However the bill was not placed in today’s session and not even included in the business list and we should not be satisfied with it as the stand of the BJP government is not ascertained” he said.
There is a probability of passing the bill as supplementary bill at any time and thus people of the state must be alert all the time and intensify the agitation till the bill is completely withdrawn, he added.
Dilip urged people to extend their solidarity and co-operation in tomorrow’s on-road agitation launched by MANPAC as a strategy of protesting against CAB, 2106.
Rebuking the opposition party Congress for walking out from the floor of the house on the day of passing the bill in Lok Sabha, he said that if such irresponsible act is repeated when the bill is placed in Rajya Sabha instead of defeating the bill, MANPAC will also protest against Congress.
The convenor also condemned the census data published by department of information and public relations in all today’s local dailies. He stated that it is an act to subside the issue by befooling the masses. Such data is baseless and not reliable as it is based on estimated population and it is not based on report of census operation.
He further said that UCM had released well accounted migrants report based on 2001 census. In that report, it was found that one-third of the population were migrants. The number of migrants was 7,04,488 and scheduled tribe was 6,70,082.
“Publishing such false data by the state government amidst people’s agitation against CAB, 2016 shows that this present government suppresses the issue and is highly condemnable”, he stated.
He also condemned the state security forces for threatening the president of MANPAC, Phundreimayum Abdullah for fighting against CAB, 2016.
