Protesters block roads despite 144 CrPC imposedIMPHAL| Feb 11
Protesters blocked the streets in different parts of the Imphal districts protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 as a part of the 36 hours state wide cease work strike imposed from 5am today by Peoples Alliance Manipur (PAM) a conglomerate of around 102 CVOs of the state, totally paralysed the normal life.

Strike supporters came out in the streets and blocked the roads in different parts of the state, but individuals who were travelling for religious ceremonies such as marriage ceremony and others were allowed to pass the streets.
Ahead of it, women folks of different localities in of valley districts also staged sit-in protest at their respective localities as a part of protest against the bill by blocking one side of the median.
Private establishment, markets, petrol pumps and almost all the shops remained shut-down, though government offices and schools have not been declared holiday, only a few turned up to their respective offices and not a single student turned up to their schools. However, hospitals and drug stores remained opened.
Interstate Bus Services including government transport services and private passengers vehicles remained off the road, except some few private vehicles were seen plying on the streets.
Strike supporters raised slogans such as ‘Down down BJP,’ ‘Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Chatnaba Yaroy,’ ‘long live Manipur,’ ‘Save the indigenous people’ and others.
“On the way, I came across barricades put up by protestors on the way to office but nothing happened to me. Only a few staffs are present today, but no public visitors,” said an employee of the PWD department.
“I want to earn my daily bread, but I have to support the strike as it is a measure to save the indigenous people of the State. Saving my life is not more important than saving my motherland,” said a woman protester.
