Mass sit-in-protests including on road agitations continue
Agitations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 continued state-wide today in various forms while most of the roads were blocked by the agitators holding black flags.
Most of the women protestors staged sit-in-protest and blocked various streets of the city. Agitators of Imphal East in the periphery of Khurai Lamlong staged sit-in-protests and marched a rally towards Lamlong Bazar and organised a joint meeting at Lamlong junction.
After the meeting, protestors chanted slogans such as ‘CAB must be withdrawn immediately’, ‘down down BJP’, ‘long live Manipur’ and others.
Besides, Nambuilong Women’s Society also staged sit-in-protests at Nambuilong, Imphal East.
Speaking to media persons, one of the agitators, Rolly Kamei said the protest is being staged against the bill and demanding for its immediate withdrawal. Various forms of agitation will be followed by the women society and will support the movement of CAB till it is completely withdrawn, she added.
For Imphal West, Singjamei Chingamakha Model Club and Apunba Meira Paibies including localities also staged sit-in-protest at Chingamakha road near Chingamakha Fura Makhong. Decrying the passing of bill on January 8, protestors chanted slogans ‘CAB must withdraw immediately’, ‘long live Manipur’ and others.
Agitators blocked roads at Pishum by holding black flags, similar protest were also seen at Imphal-Moreh road from Singjamei parking to Kakwa bazar.
Besides, Langthabal Khoubum villagers marched rally with traditional dresses from Langthabal Khoubum village to Manipur University main gate and returned to its initial position.
Similar protest were seen at various places the districts including Tiddim Road, Sagolband road and Uripok.
It may be mentioned that the bill was passed in the lower house of the Parliament on January 8 and it is likely to be passed tomorrow at the upper house.
And most of the agitators have been saying that if the bill is passed in the upper house, agitation against the bill will be intensified which would be fiercer than the tragic June 18 incident.
Mentioned may be made co-convenor of Manipur People against Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 (MANPAC), Manjit Sarangthem had announced that student bodies decrying the passing of CAB, they will surrender Hindi text books to governor and chief minister tomorrow.
