MANPAC- Jiri calls for a 38-hour total shutdown in the district
JIRIBAM| Feb 10Manipur People against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Jiribam (MANPAC- Jiri) has called for a 38-hour total shutdown in the district in protest against the Bill.
The decision to impose the 38-hour total shutdown in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2016 which will begin from 4:00 am of February 11 and end at 6:00 pm of February 12 was taken at a public meeting held today at the office of Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL), Jiribam and organised by MANPAC-Jiri.
Speaking about the bandh, convener of MANPAC-Jiri, Wangkheimayum Dinesh Meitei stated that the Committee which was formed with the support and co-operation of the CVOs and Meira paibi lups of Jiribam had called the 38-hour total shutdown was called in protest against the CAB, 2016. The objective of the total shutdown is to convey that the people of the northeast are total against the CAB which was recently passed in the Lok Sabha on January 8 and that it should not be implemented in the northeastern region. The movements and agitations will continue till the bill is completely withdrawn, he added.
Dinesh Meitei further stated that cases of illnesses, examinations, and religious occasions and ceremony amongst others will be exempted for the purview of the 38-hour total shutdown.
