Shirui villagers appeals for materialisation of promisesUKHRUL | Feb 5
Shirui Lily Festival Local Organising Committee (SLFLOC) has today reminded the state government for materialisation of promises made by chief minister for construction of Integrated Tourist Destination at Shirui.
In a press conference held at the office of Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA), Ngachan Luirei, convenor of Shirui Lily Festival Local Organising Committee, informed that Rs.5 crore was earmarked for Integrated Tourism Destination at Shirui reserved under One Time Special Assistance (OTSA).
He informed that on April 9, 2017, Shirui villagers have submitted a memorandum to chief minister for preservation and conservation of Shirui Lily- the state flower which is on the verge of extinction.
Again on May 16, 2017 during the inaugural function of First Shirui Lily State Festival, the villagers have submitted a memorandum to N. Biren Singh and for which the CM has given verbal assurance for development of Shirui Lily Heritage Village, stated Ngachan Luirei. Heritage Village is necessary since the said state festival is going to be held annually. Moreover, it is the desire of the villagers, he added.
Ngachan stated that the committee has approached every concerned department for materialisation of the said project and accordingly tourism secretary, Manipur on September 20, 2017 had written to MIDA for construction of the said project. However, on October 26, 2017, the said project was given to Manipur Police Housing Corporation. He stated that the village authority has submitted required documents and DPR to the concerned department.
He also informed that on November 17, 2017 during “Meeyamgi Numit” the villagers have met CM at Imphal and apprised him for early construction of the said project.
Ngachan stated that the inaugural function of Second Shirui Lily Festival 2018 was held at the local ground and not at the proposed site as the land development was never taken up as per given assurance. He also recollected that the local MLA along with Tourism chairman has inspected the site before the start of Shirui Lily Festival 2018.
He disclosed that Tourism secretary, W. Ibohal, to the utter dismay of villagers, informed that there is no such amount being sanctioned or earmarked for construction of Heritage Village at Shirui. He lamented that the present government should show more concern and seriousness to the celebration of Shirui Lily Festival.
Ngachan also informed that this year Shirui Lily Festival 2019 celebration will be held at the proposed heritage site and has appealed the state government to make necessary land development, road expansion and repairing so as to give a fitting tribute to the fame Lily-the state flower of Manipur.
