We must move from 3Ps to 4Ps : Heptulla
IMPHAL | Jan 10
The fourth Convocation of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal was held today at the Sports Ground of CAU, Iroishemba.
On the occasion, Governor of Manipur Dr. Najma A. Heptulla and chancellor of the CAU, Imphal Dr. S. Ayyappan graced as chief guest and president respectively.
While speaking, Dr. Najma A. Heptulla told that agriculture is the biggest private sector economic activity in the country. We must move from 3Ps (public-private-partnership) to 4Ps that is, public-private-producer-partnership. As farmers are the main stakeholders in agriculture, they must be involved in all concerned decision making processes. Farmers should be looked at as agri-preneurs who interact with corporate entrepreneurs, needing business models to be worked out to provide win-win options.
The chief guest stated that the region has tremendous potential in organic agriculture, food processing, horticulture, commercial cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, floriculture and minor forest products. The advantage of organic farming needs to be exploited suitably through technical and institutional interventions and the North East should be developed as an exclusive economic zone for organic products.
The Governor continued that agriculture has a significant role in the emergence and development of human civilization. It remains the lifeline and livelihood for more than 70 percent of the country’s population. It is true that agriculture receives top priority in our policy formulation ever since independence and our Agricultural Universities are the focal points of agricultural growth and change. Central Agricultural University, Imphal has spearheaded agricultural education in the region for the last 25 years and made significant contributions in research and technology development and wished CAU for more production and productivity in the coming days.
Vice Chancellor of the CAU, Imphal Prof. M. Premjit Singh delivered welcome address and report on CAU Imphal.
Presentation of the candidates for conferment of degrees, admission of degrees in absentia, exhortation by the Chancellor and distribution of University Gold medals and Memorial Medals were the main programmes of today’s fourth CAU Convocation.
