BJP is not for NE people and they are not interested in safeguarding them: ATISA
IMPHAL| Jan 8
General secretary of All Tipra Indigenous Student’s Association (ATISA), Jappu Debbarma, visited Manipur today in the wake of the 11 hours general strike called by North East Students Organisation (NESO) in opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 and also issued a press release informing that the bandh was fully successful in Tripura.
The press release issued on behalf of ATISA by Jappu Debbarma stated that the bandh called today for 11 hours in Tripura State was successfully conducted with the collaboration of NESO, Youth Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Tripura and Twipra Student Federation (TSF).
“But, it has come to my knowledge regarding some news that in Madahav Bari, Jirania and Kolobaghan, Champak Nagar parts of West Tripura, clashes with state police have occurred with the picketers from TSF,” it said.
The release also asserted that during the picketing, police personnel failed to control the mass and clashes occurred; and finally without any announcement, the police started firing on the picketers while also indulging in lathi charges and throwing gas bombs at the students. More than 20 people were injured while 8 of them sustained serious injuries, it continued while mentioning that the names of the seriously injured are Sankar Debbarma, Nital Debbarma, Sumit Debbarma, Pohor Debbarma, Binoy Debbarma, Sabir Debbarma, Lalit Mohan Debbarma, Rabi Kumar Debbarma and Dinesh Kumar from TSF.
“Who gave the authority to shot bullets on Picketers?” Jappu Debbarma questioned while also enquiring why such incidents of firing happened only during the bandh called by NESO. “Are Tripura and people of the northeast safe today?” he added.
Jappu Debbarma, in the release, said, “After all this now, I clearly want to say that on behalf of our organisation, ATISA withdraws its support from the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) party till exemplary punishments are given to the police personnel involved and justice delivered to the victims.”
It also asserted that it is clearly proven that the BJP is not for the people of the northeast and they are not interested in safeguarding the northeast. The BJP and IPFT coalition government has failed in Tripura and they do not know how to control law and order in the state, it said.
The release further called for the resignation of CM, Biplap Kr. Deb along with the resignation of IPFT ministers and the party’s withdrawal from the coalition government.
“I will say Tripura is an example of ‘Abnormal Government,” Jappu Debbarma added.
