Social activist Konsam Gulapi passes away

Renowned social activist of Assam, Konsam Gulapi Singha passed away at the age of 66 on the evening of December 9. He is survived by his parents, wife and two sons.
Various CVOs, Women’s organisations, youths and students activists and institutions have expressed their condolences over the demise of the social activist.
President of Manipuri Youths Front Assam (MYFA), Seram Herajit conveyed his sorrow over the death of great social activist Konsam Gulapi stating that “It is a great loss for the community.”
While president of All Assam Manipuri Students Union (AAMSU), Pangabam Nilkanta, in his condolence message, mentioned Konsam Gulapi’s invaluable contributions towards AAMSU and society, president of Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (AMMPAL), A. Lily maintained that the contributions of its former advisor, Konsam Gulapi’s contributions towards society will be written in the history with golden letters.
Chairman of Committee on Peace and Integrity (COCPIN), Saikhom Kamlakanta also expressed his deepest sympathy over the untimely demise of Konsam Gulapi who is also a former chairman of the Committee. “Gulapi had contributed a lot for the well-being of Manipuri society in his best way,” he added.
It might be recalled here that Konsam Gulapi Singh, a retired havildar of Indian Army was born to Konsam Narahari and Konsam (O) Tampaklei Devi of Ramnagar Tuko at Silchar in Cachar district. After taking retirement from the Indian Army in 1995, Konsam Gulapi began involved in social service; and he served Manipuri society of Assam by holding many distinguished posts of many civil organisations including advisor of AAMSU central Committee; advisor of AMMPAL, chairman of COCPIN; president of Pari Puri Athouba Ningsing Lup, Silchar; general secretary of the Manipuri Benevolent Society and advisor, Manipuri Women’s Weaver’s Association amongst others.
Konsam Gulapi was also actively associated with the BJP serving as vice president of the BJP Silchar Mandal and a president of the BJP Kishan Morcha, Cachar District Committee. He worked tirelessly for the cause of Manipuri integrity and was the commander in chief of the historic ‘Manipur lavy of 2008.’
