‘Lilong assembly constituency slowly returning to Stone Age’IMPHAL | Dec 9
“Lilong assembly constituency has been neglected by the government for long and is now experiencing a ‘stone age like situation. Government authorities should stay in the area to understand the true grievances of the people” said publicity secretary of Lilong Development Forum, Raza Thongkhongmayum while briefing media persons.
He was speaking at the creation of Lilong Development Forum (LDF) today at the conference hall of MN Born Baker, Lilong Market. He further stated that Lilong area is lagging behind in almost every field, people’s representatives and the government are turning blind eye in taking up developmental works such as road connectivity, electricity, hospitals, schools, community halls and other essential developmental works.
He further said that Lilong assembly constituency is surrounded by Wabagai, Keirao, Wangoi, Wabagai, Thoubal and Wangkhem constituency and serves as an important junction but the road connecting the constituency and other constituency had been neglected without construction for many years. “And it is in a condition of returning back to the Stone Age” he alleged.
Stating that the main problem of the area is the roads being narrow, students and other emergency works have been delayed and not only that, many unwanted accidents has also been witnessed in the past, he added.
Raza said that repairing the road will build a better relationship between the constituencies in exchange of products and building emotional integrity and therefore appealed the government to repair the roads of Lilong at the earliest.
He further mentioned that Lilong assembly constituency has been a sub division for many years and can now be converted into a district. But instead of that it lacks even basic essential infrastructure required for development of a subdivision.
The LDF spokesperson further claimed that properties worth crores destroyed by flood of last year still remains unattended and the 220 feet river bank destroyed by the last flood also remains the same without a permanent close, though the government assured that the repairing and construction of river bank will be done after the rainy season.
Informing that around 2000 hectares of paddy field had been affected by natural calamities since 2011 which in turn decrease the production, he appealed the government to exempt the tax for these years.
The publicity secretary of the forum further questioned whether the government intentionally neglected the area because the representative is from a different political party and he said that it is questionable whether the representative of the area had misused the funds for the area.
The electricity for the areas under prepaid plan has been under considerable condition, he also said, but there are areas still living without prepaid plan and improper power line construction even today. The Community Health Centre of the area is like a toilet and it is not in a position to treat sick people, said Raja.
Since the government and the area representative had neglected the area without following what they preach in the election, LDF is forced to form with an intention to start helping the people in whatever way it can.
He asserted that LDF is neither against any political party nor work with the support of any political organisation, Raza said LDF acts as voice of the people. He also said that one of the objectives of PDF is to bring urbanization in Lilong as it is also close to state capital, and urbanizing the area will also divert the congested traffic of Imphal to a certain extent.
He suggested that the local representative and officers must stay in their respective constituencies so that they will also know and experience the problems and grievances of the people themselves.
He further informed that LDF along with media persons will start inspecting different areas of the constituency from time to time in the future.
Md. Nayeem Khan, president of the forum also took part at the press conference.
