Four day long Arogya Fair inaugurated
Union minister promises many projects for promotion of AYUSH health care in State

On the first day of Arogya Fair 2018 Manipur, a large number of people thronged the venue at City Convention Centre, Imphal today in presence of Union minister of State for AYUSH, Shripad Yesso Naik and chief minister, N. Biren Singh.
With an objective to promote Ayuveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) health care system in the state, the union minister who had attended the function as special guest assured of taking up various projects to promote the traditional medicinal practices of the State.
Naik said that ministry of AYUSH had approved setting up of a new Homeopathic College at Keirao in Imphal East district in which the college will have a Homeopathy Pharmacy and a Drug Testing Laboratory as well. On the top of this, land of one hectare has been acquired within the campus of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to upgrade Regional Research Institute of Homeopathy, Imphal, he added.
Informing that the steps taken up by the central government for promotion of AYUSH health care system in the country and state as well, Naik said that AYUSH doctors and facilities are being provided in PHCs and CHCs and district hospitals of all the states under the National AYUSH Mission.
Under the same Mission, 10-bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital was constructed at Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai in Imphal West district which was inaugurated today. He also assured for construction of quarters for nurses, chowkidar and doctors of this hospital soon.
The central government had approved providing support in setting up of four 50-bedded hospitals in the state which will be in Moreh, Churachandpur, Lamphelpat and Keirao, he added.
The state is endowed with so many medicinal plants, so promotion of AYUSH health care will also help in promotion of herbal plants cultivation and boost the economy of the state, he asserted.
As chief guest of today’s function, the chief minister said that Manipur occupies a fraction of a percent of the total land area of the Earth. However, among the total 10,000 identified medicinal and aromatic plants found in different parts of the world, Manipur has around 500 varieties, he added.
The state government is targeting with a firm effort to hand over the Ayush Hospital being constructed at Keirao in Imphal East by February next year, said Biren.
Health and Family Welfare minister, L. Jayantakumar who attended the function as president said that AYUSH is a very unique system of health care. It can effectively supplement the ‘Allopathic’ system in providing health care to people, he said. Apparently, promotion of AYUSH was done for namesake in the past, however, the new government is very keen and committed in propagating this unique way of health care, he added.
As a part of the programme, 1,000 sports kits were distributed to players and souvenir was also released.
Altogether, 42 stalls were opened to display Ayush products and herbal food. Free consultation was also provided by Ayush specialists, followed free distribution of medicines, display of medicinal plants and products and others.
Moreover, experts from different parts of the country will talk on 24 topics during the fair.
Yoga demonstrations for treatment of diseases, public awareness programmes like preparations of home remedy for common diseases, business lecture session and awareness on cultivation of medicinal plants and others are the highlights of the fair.
Till 5 pm, 93 patients attended the National Health Mission, and there were 126 patients at Ayush department stall, 34 patients at Yoga and Naturopathy stall, 50 patients at Ayurveda stall and 42 patients at Unani stall. The stalls were opened till 7 pm.
