‘Each community should cooperate and support each other to protect integrity’IMPHAL | Dec 4
To save the identity of a community and to avoid unwanted influences, there should be no interference in the cultural and traditional purity of a community, said speaker, Y. Khemchand as chief guest during a one-day Lamjir Utt cum Cultural Festival held today at Aimol Ngairong village, Chandel district.
The festival was organised under the theme ‘My Culture, My Identity’.
The speaker said that in olden days, small community used to revolt using guns but as Manipur needs to be a peaceful society, use of guns to panic the people should be stopped. To protect their own community they should organise cultural festival periodically at different places, he added.
Replying a query of the people urging to complete construction work of the community hall, Khemchand said that he came to attend the function as a neutral person being a speaker of the House. He said he has no authority to urge the government for the construction but also advised the people to urge the concerned department to speed up the work, and then he will involve personally.
President of All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), Ph. Deban, as the guest of honour, said to preserve small community of Manipur, all the communities need strong cooperation. More often, the voice of major community is given more priority than the minor community but in fact every voice should be given equal priority to preserve the identity, culture and tradition of all the communities in the State, he added.
“Though Aimol community have been victimised by larger communities, security personnel and various types of insurgents, the community have been taking part in raising voices for the integrity of Manipur. There are about 36 communities in Manipur and each community should cooperate and support each other to protect the integrity,” he asserted.
He continued that at the time of election, most of the candidates make fake promises to the people of village which is located at far flung area, in order to get political mileage. However, when the representative is elected, the village is neglected, he added. Budgets might have sanctioned for development of the village and small community but the sanctioned budgets are misused by bureaucrats, he claimed.
He also said that government welfare scheme like PMGSY might have reached the villages of small community but there also other welfare schemes for which the villages are left out. To bring development separate budgets for small community should be sanctioned, and public and government should jointly promote the small community to preserve it, he added.
President of United Committee Manipur (UCM), Sunil Karam as guest of honour said that each community of the state should organise their own cultural festival periodically at different locations. Each community have its own cultural festival and to highlight and preserve the small community such cultural festival should be organised, he added.
“Aimol should live as Aimol and government should give more focus on the development of hill areas to make a developed state,” said Sunil.
Director (in-charge) of CRC, Guwahati, W. Lanu Aimol; social activist, Gourashyam Singh; Rt. Akung; former president of AMWJU, Shyamjai and others also attended the function as president and guests of honour respectively.
