MHHDC signs MOA for apparel and garment centre
As part of first Manipur International Textile Expo (MANITEX) which commenced from November 5, school uniformswere launched today at Manipur Trade Centre, Lamboi Khongnangkhong, organised by directorate of handlooms and textiles.
A memorandum of agreement (MoA) for apparel and garment centre was also signed between two companies, KB Philanthropy and the Women’s Worth Organisation and the Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation (MHHDC)
Education minister, Th. Radheshyam said, “To empower women, we should first bring economic empowerment for women, and handloom and handicraft is the way to do that.”
He said that the launching of school uniforms and MOA signed isto upgrade the status of handloom and handicrafts and it should be transformed into action. The department should do assessment with long term plan giving preference to demand, he added.
Production is not only the way but people’s demand is strongly required and the department should create the way of demand, said Radheshyam.
He continued that almost all the people speaks for promoting the state’s culture and tradition but there is lack of participation. The department should plan whether the productsareready for export or not, he added.
Chairman of MHHDC Ltd. Manipur, S. Rajen said MANITEX gives encouragement and creates competition among women artisans. Historically, Manipur was an independent state with rich culture and tradition but now it dependson other state for each and every thing, he added. The government has started many schemes and gives loans to savethe income of the state and people should acknowledge and cooperate with it, he said.
MLA of Chingaiassembly constituency, KhashimVashum appealed to open handloom and textile centre at each district, which should stalls for hill district handloom products. He also urged the people to change the way of using clothsby choosing handloom and handicraft products.
The function was attended by principal secretary (TC&I), P. Vaiphei and director of handloom and textiles, Lamlee Kamei.
Before the launching function, the resource persons shared their experience with the exporters and importersof apparel and garment.
Designer of Zara Fashion, NgangbamBasanta said that if thequality of production in the state is enhancedthen the products can be exported worldwide. Different types of design can be made without wasting even a single piece of cloth, he added.
Proprietor of Women’s Worth Manipur, Ng. Bimolata shared her experience while saying that emphasis should also be given in providing hostel facility for the trainees and maintaining of work culture at workplace.
Proprietor of Little Angels Churachandpur, Dominik Matte Gaite said that cloth business will never die. There may beloss in the start but it always worksin a long run. She also welcomes people who desire to work with Little Angels.
Proprietor of Rajen Dresses, PukhrambamBrojenand proprietor of Mutua Museum, Mutua Bahadur also attended the function.
