Complaint lodged with ‘inquiry committee’ as Prof. Yugindro breaks into VC’s room
IMPHAL | Sept 23 : Senior most professor of Manipur University, W. Vishwanath said a complaint has been lodged to the ‘two member inquiry committee’ regarding breaking the lock of vice-chancellor office by professor, K. Yugindro and security forces.
The office of the vice-chancellor and the registrar of the university were shielded on August 23 as per the advice of the chairman of the inquiry committee constituted by HRD ministry.
Speaking to media persons today at his Sagolband residence, Vishwanath said it is very unfortunate that the state government has kept the teachers and students of Manipur University behind bars after arresting them from their respective residences and hostels. Moreover, firing of tear gas shells at the hostels injuring some students has been very disappointing, he added.
“The teachers of the varsity have been giving their best contribution and also have set up the career of several students. The contribution of the students, teachers and staffs of the varsity since the last 40 years has brought up the varsity up to this level,” said Vishwanath.
He appealed all the authority concerned to revoke the suspension order of the arrested teachers and also to release the teachers and students unconditionally considering the restoration of the academic normalcy, their future and their contribution to the society.
Asserting that the authorities concerned should follow and respect the memorandum of agreement signed with the varsity community, the professor said, “If somebody has broken the agreement, the person should be questioned by the authority.”
Meanwhile, maximum students of the varsity has declared that they will not appear the semester examinations, when there mates and teachers are suffering behind the bars.
Most of the boy’s hostellers have vacated their hostels after the raid that was conducted by the security forces on the intervening mid-night of last Thursday and Friday. Since the day of the incident, security personnel with arms are deployed in every corner of the varsity campus and police did not allow gathering of more than five students inside the campus. Moreover, there are certain restrictions in entering the campus.
“I would have already completed my master before three or four months, if there had been no issue in the varsity,” said one of the students of Political Science, who is in his fourth semester.
“Deploying of security personnel in every corner of the varsity campus gives a mental disturbance and apprehension to the students as a result we are unable to move freely inside our own university campus. It is more like a war zone and a military base camp,” added one of the hostellers.
He continued, “Usually people feel secure when they see police personnel, but for the students of the varsity, seeing them gives insecure feelings.”
A Life Science student said, “Deploying armed personnel inside the campus of an educational institute is not logical. It is an act of the government to suppress the career of the students.”
“Entering hostels of the university without the permission of the warden and even firing tear gas shells clearly shows the dictatorship of the BJP led government,” she added.
The students’ community of the varsity appealed the authority concerned to release the arrested teachers and students without any condition for restoring the normalcy.
According to source, the semester examination of the university is likely to be conducted forcefully from September 28 onwards, though Joint Students’ Co-ordinating Committee (JSCC) has declared for total shut-down of the university until normalcy is restored.
