Bandh suspended following assurance from Education minister
THOUBAL | Sept 13 : The Thoubal District Bandh called by United Action Committee of Affected Pattadar from Lilong to Wangjingand scheduled for September 14 and 15 has been temporarily suspended for some days.
The committee had called the bandh to protest the “unfair” land acquisition cases by the state government in connection with the widening of the stretch between Lilong Thong and Wangjing of Imphal- Moreh road, National Highway -102.
Minister of Education, Th.Radheshyam, in a meeting with the members of the committee, had provided assurances that the demands of the pattadars will be addressed before September 19 following which the bandh was temporarily suspended.
DC Thoubal along with Highway officials were also present at the meeting which was held at the office of the minister today.
The official news of the suspension of the bandh was conveyed to the public in a press meet organised by members of the Committee and held at Lilong.
“The bandh has been temporarily suspended for some days following assurances from the state government that their demands will be addressed before September 19,”said secretary of UAC,Md.Islam. If the demands are not addressed before the stipulated date then further agitations will follow, he added.
On the other hand, in a meeting with media persons, Road Expansion Committee from Lilong to Thoubal Wangjing has expressed that the expansion of the National Highway was undertaken taken by the state government in the interest of the welfare of the public. Decrying the intrusion by some people with vested interests terming it as unfortunate, the committee also requested for no further interference while requesting the state government to release the compensations at the earliest.
