Guv, CM and ministers extend I-Day messages
IMPHAL | Aug 14 : Manipur governor Najma A Heptulla and chief minister N. Biren Singh greeted the people on the occasion of the Independence Day.
In her greetings the governor said that on August 15, 1947, India attained freedom from the British and the people of India have been celebrating this great historical event every year as Independence Day. Freedom was achieved from the colonial powers after a long freedom struggle and innumerable sacrifices by millions of Indians.
“On this day, we remember our brave forefathers and pay homage to them, which is our bounden duty. We the present generation must strive tirelessly so that the hard won freedom continues to take us to greater well being of all citizens of the country”, said the governor.
As India has made rapid strides on various fronts in the past few decades, new challenges have arisen posing a threat to the very core of nationhood and there is, therefore, a need to strive even harder to overcome these challenges to ensure that India remains healthy and becomes a leader in the comity of nations. On this auspicious occasion, let us renew our pledge to protect the hard earned freedom and also contribute for a better India where all are equal and no one goes hungry or gets victimised, she added.
Biren Singh extending his greetings and wishes to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of the 72nd Independence Day, said “August 15 is an important day for all of us to look back and focus our thoughts on this great landmark in the history of our nation, and to rededicate ourselves to the ideals of democracy and service to the nation.”
“Today, we remember and recall the supreme and selfless sacrifice made by our forefathers in the freedom struggle. We bow in reverence to the memory of all whose sacrifices have made it possible for us to enjoy this precious freedom”, he continued.
On this auspicious and historic occasion, we should renew our pledge to uphold and promote the spirit of nationhood, unity and integrity as citizens of an independent country, said the chief minister.
“Let us also resolve to join hands to promote peace and harmony and work together for the prosperity of our State and the Nation so that the dreams of our forefathers are fulfilled”, he added.
Works minister, Th. Biswajit said that Independence Day is a day of remembrance as well as of dedication. Remembrance of all those great patriots whose sacrifices made it possible for us to enjoy the fruits of freedom and dedication to the noble ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, solidarity and brotherhood which inspired our national struggle for freedom.
“Let us salute our freedom fighters and the valiant soldiers for their courage, bravery and sacrifice for our nation’s freedom. The land we live in and the traditions we live by constitute the character of our country. We should promote patriotic fervour and carry forward our rich culture and tradition, to develop a national outlook and commitment to attain excellence in all spheres to make our nation a global leader”, he added.
