‘India govt should give separate administrative status for different communities’
JIRIBAM | Jul 24 (JNN) : Manipuri Youths Front of Assam (MYFA) stated that the organisation condemns Indian government’s alleged policies to break apart Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh while the outcome of Framework Agreement signed between NSCN-IM and government of India is being awaited now.
A release signed by president of the organisation, Seram Herajit said that in regards to the framework agreement, it is said that interlocutor RN. Ravi is prepared to put his signature on the agreement to grant administrative and cultural identity for Nagas at Naga settled areas such as Dima Hasao and Karbianglong in Assam, Naga settled districts in Manipur and specific areas in Arunachal.
In a similar fashion,
MYFA will put forward demands to give administrative and cultural identity for Manipuris at Manipuri settled areas, it said.
The release stated that separate administration, therefore, must be given for Manipuris at Manipuri settled areas of Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and others if the same advantage is given for Nagas. Regarding this, the CVOs of Manipur and especially the Manipuri people are appealed to extend their support to the proposal put forward by MYFA, it added.
The release further stated that when Manipur is facing a threat of being torn apart, there is a clarion call for Manipuris settling at Assam and Tripura to claim something of their own.
The lives of Manipuris settled at Assam are also facing an existential threat day by day as they are not considered indigenous to Assam by its state government though the community had been settled there more than 300 years ago under the reign of King Chourajit, Marajit, Gambhir Singh and other kings, the release informed.
In a similar manner, Manipuris settled at Tripura are living without having any economic status for many years, it further informed.
They have faced many forms or atrocities under the oppression of main land Indians and non-locals, and therefore, the demand of MYFA is apt and reasonable, it added.
