AISF demonstrates for VC ouster in Delhi
IMPHAL | Jul 11 : The All India Students’ Federation (AISF) held a rally in national capital to express solidarity with Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) agitation endorsed by Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA), demanding ouster of Manipur University vice chancellor, Adya Prasad Pandey.
This was conveyed to the media by state secretary of AISF Manipur State Council (AISF/MSF), Kh. Rameshwor Singh in a press conference held at its office at BT Road today.
The rally was held in accordance to resolution taken by the federation during public discourse on the Manipur University impasse held at Manipur Press Club on July 6, he said.
The rally started from office of AISF, Ajoy Bhawan and move towards office of union ministry of Human Resource and Development, Shastri Bhawan with the slogan “Shame on the crisis of Manipur University”, “Remove prof. A.P. Pandey, the VC of Manipur University” and so on. A silent protest was also held at the place where police barricades the protestors, said Rameshwor.
Appealing to varsity authority to remove Pandey from VC’s post at the earliest, he said the prevailing issue is spoiling the students’ community of the state.
State president of AISF/MSC, Laiphrakpam Karanjit has condemned setting fire of the office of additional director of Sports by some unknown miscreants and stated that it was a plan to tarnish the image of the agitators and to derail the agitation.
He urged the authority concerned to identity those who involved in blemishing the image of students’ union when they are sacrificing their life for welfare of university.
Appealing people of the state to have unity in the current issue, he said,“The University is the asset of the state. To save the university from the hand of incapable VC lies in the hand of people and it could be achieved only when every section of the society stands together.”
He condemned the varsity authority for urging the hostellers to vacate their room and stated that agitation will continue unless the demand is fulfilled if students are not allowed to stay inside the campus.
