9th foundation of EEVFAM held
IMPHAL | Jul 11 : The 9th foundation day of Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families’ Association, Manipur (EEVFAM), was observed at Manipur Press Club today.
Secretary of EEVFAM, Edina Yengkhom, who read out the annual report of EEVFAM said, “Amid the victim’s family are suffering for more than 20 years to get justice, the human rights defender are attacking indirectly. This gives lot of tension to victim’s family.”
To defend from such activities, Brave campaign was held last month in association with Human Rights Alert, EEVFAM and Amnesty International.
Since 2012, EEVFAM have been running from pillar to post to get justice of 1538 people, who had ended their life in fake encounter, by filing PIL at Supreme Court. But the justice is not yet delivered. “We expect that verdict of four cases may decide in the next hearing that falls on July 27,” said Edina.
President of EEVFAM, Renu Takhellambam said despite Supreme Court had directed CBI for speedy trial, the investigating agency is still playing delaying tactics. This has created us to feel that some hidden agenda is adopting while investigating the cases.
She said that they (EEVFAM members) would not give up their ‘concerted’ effort until and unless the justice is being received by victim’s family and culprits are not punished. The main objective of organising this foundation day is to find out the applicable means of delivering justice at earliest, she added.
EEVFAM was established in the year 2009 by young widows whose husbands were killed in fake encounters, she informed.
The widows have overcome several untoward incidents, biased and discrimination from the locality. They are kept apart after their husbands were killed on charges of having nexus with unlawful elements, Renu said.
During the programme floral tributes were paid to deceased victims.
Advocate, Basanta Wareppa updated the EEVFAM cases, after that open discussion on present case and future prospects was held moderated by former head of department of Philosophy, Manipur University, Professor Soyam Lokendrajit.
