Culprits will be hunted down: CM
IMPHAL | Jul 10 : Chief minister, N. Biren Singh has vowed to hunt down the culprit(s) involved in the ambush in Kamjong district near the Indo-Myanmar border that killed one Assam Rifles jawan.
“A search operation has been launched in connection with the attack and the operation will continue until the culprit(s) are nabbed,” said the minister during the wreath laying ceremony held in honour of the deceased jawan.
The ceremony was held at Imphal International Airport.
The chief minister said such unwanted act is strongly condemned by the government and is also condemnable by all sections.
Ningthoujam Subash Chandra Singh, the jawan of 31 Assam Rifles, from Khangabok was killed and few jawans sustained injuries during the ambush for which the proscribed PLA claimed responsibility.
The ambush occurred at the location near Skipe village under Kamjong Chasad police station when 31 Assam Rifles troops were on routine patrol duty.
The militants exploded two improvised explosive device (IED), followed by heavy exchange of fire between 9.30am and 9.45am, killing the jawan on the spot.
Asserting that the government never endorses using of violence in resolving any issue, he said the government always try to negotiate any matter through dialogue and bring a political solution but stated that yesterday’s attack is very unfortunate.
Expressing his deep condolence to the families of the deceased jawan, the chief minister assured them to provide all allowable assistance from the government side.
Deputy chief minister, Y. Joykumar, chief secretary, Suresh Babu, DGP, L.M. Khaute along with top officials of state police and militaries attended the wreath laying ceremony.
The site of the ceremony was filled with laments from the family members, friends and relatives of the deceased.
The proscribed People’s Liberation Front (PLA) claimed that a special team of PLA under its tactical command launched the ambush, according to a release signed by secretary publicity, Revolutionary People’s Front, Roben Khumam.
RPF is deeply saddened whenever a Manipuri army jawan dies or receive injuries during such battles, the release stated.
