Drugs worth Rs. 2 crore seized
IMPHAL | Jul 10 : A team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) arrested two persons along with one kilogram of heroin powder from Nagaram area near Punya Hyundai Car showroom yesterday.
The two drug traffickers have been identified as Hidangmayum Inao Sharma, 43, son of late H. Nilamani Sharma and Hijam Tondum Singh, 37, son of late H. Ihohal Singh both hailing from Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai under Andro police station, Imphal East.
It is said that the operation was led by additional superintendent of police, NAB, R.K. Shaklemba and they were arrested yesterday at around 5.30 pm. The team recovered one kilogram of Heroine powder along with other incriminating articles.
A case has been registered at NAB police station for investigation.
Superintendent of police, NAB, and PRO of police department Manipur, W. Basu Singh said that in local market, value of the seized drug would be Rs. 1 lakh but it would fetch around Rs. 2 crore in the international market. There is a difference of ten times when the price is compared to that of the international market, he added.
Basu further said that NAB has seized around 7 kg of heroine, more than 10 kg of brown sugar and above 7 lakh worth ‘World is Yours’ (WY) tablets this year. He said, “The exact volume of the seizure might not be figured out at this moment but it would be the biggest seizure of this year.”
As the contraband drugs are mostly seized along the national highway of Imphal - Moreh road, the authorities of India and Myanmar have been conducting talks 2-3 times in a year for precautionary measures, said Basu.
Myanmar government has also given positive response when the authority of India appealed for prevention of contraband drugs in the region but till date, the authorities have not decided what steps should be taken against this, he asserted.
Basu said for disposal of the seized drugs along with others, NAB has sent a letter to CCF (controller company factories), and the disposal might start from mid of this month, it added.
