NEIDP hopes positive verdict on irregularities at Patsoi A/C
IMPHAL | Jul 10 : According to a verdict of Supreme Court on July 4, the North East India Development Party (NEIDP) is hopeful that the irregularities in vote counting of Patsoi assembly will be declared in favour of them.
The case was petitioned by Sapam Kunjakeswor alias Keba Singh against Akoijam Mirabai Devi for alleged “malpractice” used by latter to garner votes in the assembly election, 2017.
General secretary (administration) of the party, Wahengbam Khelindra in a press meet held today at its office, pointed out that the Supreme Court has ruled out in favour of the party and directed the High Court of Manipur to expedite hearing of election petition filed by Keba, in view the spirit of Representation of the People Act, 1951.
Keba was earlier announced as the winner of the Patsoi constituency in electronic media and DC office complex but later Mirabai was declared the winner again.
Khelindra noted that the irregularities in election and counting itself show the prevalence of corrupt practice in a democratic state. NEIDP considers the act as disrespect to democracy and taking the voters for granted.
An election petition in the form of Special Leave to Appeal was filed on April 2017 at the High Court of Manipur. But to fasten the process and to get just justice, the case was also forwarded to Supreme Court.
The SC has in its findings revealed that during election counting process, some postal ballot paper of Patsoi assembly constituency are kept in Konthoujam A/C ballot box.
Keba said at the press conference that NEIDP and people of Patsoi A/C believe that the true and unbiased result would be declared soon in the favour of the party. “Though it takes time, we believe that justice will be delivered and the directive of the SC is a morale booster for the party” he said.
Keba in the last election polled 13291 votes and with a margin of 114 votes, lost to Mirabai Chanu of Congress party.
