Agricultural equipment and grains distributed to farmers
IMPHAL | Jul 10 : The “Input Distribution for the Promotion of System of Rice Intensification” was held at Manipur Press Club today organised by Self Employment Voluntary Association (SEVA) under the sponsorship of Tata Trust.
As a part of the programme, manual cum electronic type of pumps were distributed to 350 farmers of Imphal West and Bishnupur at subsidised rate and grain of black aromatic rice at free cost.
Acting regional manager of Centre for Micro Finance and Livelihood, Tata Trusts, Hringjangam Langhu, as chief guest of the function, assured of providing financial assistance and marketing strategy to farmers of the state.
Chief executive of SEVA, Khundrakpam Chinglen Singh as president of the function said that the association was started in 2005 with the objective of promoting organic farming in the state.
Chinglen stressed that the arable land of the state is gradually decreasing due to construction of building and institutions in farmland. If the authority does not take up any affirmative step for protection of farmland famine may occur after some years.
There is a high demand of black aromatic rice from other states but the state could not supply the demand. It is because very few farmers cultivate pure black aromatic rice, he added.
He appealed the farmers to cultivate pure black aromatic rice instead of cultivating mixed type of black aromatic rice in large scale.
The association is working in selective areas of Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
Other dignitaries attended in the function as guests of honour were treasurer of Lamdeng Farmer Club, Ch. Ibochou, one of the farmers of Khumbong Farmer Club, Thokchom Nimai and director of Green Biotech Eco Solution Pvt. Ltd., Geetashori Yumnam.
