Joint secretary HRD in Imphal to assess MU unrest
IMPHAL | Jun 22 : Joint secretary, ministry of HRD, G.C Hosur arrived in Imphal to take stock of the situation prevailing in the Manipur University following the protest demanding removal of the vice-chancellor of the varsity by the students.
G.C Hosur, arrived in Imphal yesterday after chief minister, N. Biren Singh, spoke to Union HRD minister, Prakash Javadekar, over the phone. Soon after his arrival the joint secretary called on the N. Biren Singh.
“After a telephonic discussion with the HRD minister Prakash Javadekar about the unrest in the Manipur University, joint secretary HRD Ministry came to Imphal today and met me in my office. We discussed on the present crisis in the Manipur University,” said the chief minister in his official facebook post.
Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) also met joint secretary, department of human resource, G.C. Hosur today at hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong to discuss on prevailing issues surrounding the vice chancellor of Manipur University.
Speaking to media persons, president of MUSU, Mayanglambam Dayaman said as the joint secretary invited to discuss the present issue of Manipur University, four executives of MUSU today met Hosur to discuss the issue.
Dayaman said that during the meeting, the team brought the issue along with the memorandum to Hosur. He also brought up the demands made by MUSU and the allegation made against vice chancellor regarding his alleged irregularities.
Hosur appealed MUSU to withdraw the agitation as it would take time to take the memorandum into action and it would also affect the academic atmosphere of the university. To this, Dayaman replied that the agitation will not end until the VC is removed from the university. The meeting failed to bring amicable solution for the present issue, he added.
He said MUSU has given an ultimatum to remove the VC by tomorrow. If the authority fails to do the needful, then intense agitation will follow from the next day.
Later, students of the university marched a rally inside the campus demanding that the vice chancellor of Manipur University, Adiya Prasad Pandey must be removed. Protestors marched the rally with placards that read, “We condemn the violation of MU act, 2005”, “Down down, V.C. AP Pandey” and “We like your kind attention, hon’ble PM uinion minister MHRD.”
