Go to village mission fails in Churachandpur
IMPHAL | May 16 : Drawing attention of the chief minister, president of Komrem Mothers’ Association, Serto Abi Kom alleged that ‘Go to Village’ mission conducted at Samulamlan block, Tuiringphaisen village, Churchandpur has failed to give old age pensions to deserving villagers.
She made the statement during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul today. She said the villagers are complaining that the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAP) has failed to give benefits to the deserving villagers who are of Kom community.
As a part of the mission, concerned officials of the state came yesterday to deliver old age pension at Tuiringphaisen village. The officials put up a list of deserving villagers for pension at the community hall, but only two persons from the village were included in the list namely Rengi, wife of late Kunga from Tuiringphaisen and another Atinnei, wife of Chungrengthang from M. Kananphai, she added.
She said the list of IGNOAP beneficiaries is a fake one as the remaining names mentioned in the list do not belong to the village.
“It is very unfortunate that the Go to Village mission camp held at Samulamlan block, Tuiringphaisen village did not benefit the people of the village. Yesterday, the officials who conducted the mission camp fixed a list for old age pensioners from the village at the community hall where the camp was held. But the names in the list are all names of Kuki people who do not reside in the village which is constituted mainly of Kom people, said Serto.
She said as the names were all bogus, the villagers turned hostile against the organisers and the programme had to stop before it started. “We want the government to make the pensions reach to the deserving widows and old people,” Serto said.
The mission is a good initiative, but the officials who came to our village yesterday conducted the mission erroneously, she further said. The villagers have not received any benefits from government schemes for many years so far, even if the mission has been started and successful in other villages, she asserted.
In the village, there are sixty household of Kom tribe, fifty household of Hmar tribe and only six household of Meitei. Kom tribe posses a majority population in the village and the villagers condemned the authorities for making a fake list during the time of delivering old aged pension scheme to the deserving villagers, she added.
She appealed the state to make the benefits reach the needy villagers.
It may be mentioned that the third chapter of the Go to Village mission was launched yesterday across the state.
Go to Village mission was launched by chief minister, Nongthombam Biren Singh on May 1 with the objective to deliver government schemes at the doorstep of the beneficiaries. It was launched throughout Manipur in 60 villages of all the 60 Assembly constituencies to deliver government services to the people.
