Cine cafe starts today to promote cinema halls in the state
IMPHAL | Apr 15 : In order to bring the trend of screening cinemas in theatres ‘Cine café,’ which is an extension of the Imphal Evenings, kicked off from today at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS).
Giving keynote address, film maker, Ningthouja Lancha said due to lack of proper infrastructure at cinema halls the trend of watching cinema at cinema halls have been declining and to bring back the trend, the initiatives of screening films at halls is being taken up starting from today onwards.
He urged the state to set up a minimum of one cinema hall with proper well infrastructure for each district in order to reduce the declining habit of watching cinema at halls.
Every Saturday and Sunday, cinema will be screened at the auditorium hall of MSFDS. On every Saturday, there will be one show of either foreign or Indian film that screened from 6 pm. On Sundays, there will be two shows; the first show will starts from 4 pm followed by second show from 7 pm. To promote the local film makers, Manipuri cinema will be screened on Sundays.
He said film producers can register to screen their film at MSFDS office during office hours by paying fifteen thousand rupees for one show and twenty thousand rupees for two shows.
State Commissioner, arts and culture, M. Laksmikumar Singh who attended as chief guest of the function said the steps has been taken up to revive the role of films in the state. Manipuri cinema halls have becoming dormant and to revive the Manipuri cinema halls the initiatives have been taken up, he added.
As a part of showing cinemas, two stalls are also opened with local cuisines where public can enjoy during the interval.
On the opening of ‘Cine café,’ a Russian film ‘White Sun of the Desert’ was screened. The film is packed with action, comedy, music, drama and poetry. It is said that the film is watched by Russian cosmonauts before most of their space launches as a good luck ritual.
Director of arts and culture, Ng. Uttam Singh, secretary of MSFDS, H. Nabachandra attended the function as guest of honor and president respectively.
