Artistes should speak out: Uttam
IMPHAL | Apr 15 : Director of arts and culture, Ngangom Uttam Singh appeal the artistes of the state to share their feedback so that he may appeal to the state for doing the needful for their welfare.
Uttam stated this during the celebration of 2nd festival of Manipuri folk songs under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi held today at community hall of Patsoi Part II, Makha Leikai, Imphal West. The programme was organised by Mamataz Manipuri Dance and Music Centre (MMDMC) located at Sagolband Khamnam Bazar, Soyam Leirak, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Utam said that a proper cultural policy will be established soon for the welfare of the artist of the state. It is a coming expression among the people that the state is well popular throughout the country as well as globally in the field of sports and culture.
The state has been taking many initiatives for sports in order to motivate the players but it does not bother to take initiatives for the artist though the state is also known for its beautiful arts and culture, he asserted.
He said most of the artistes become so passionate in their field that they did not even make complain against the state in order to get benefits for the artistes. The artistes hardly complain about their hardships and problems though they face many struggles. Therefore, the government does not bother to take initiative policies.
He appealed the artistes to voice about their hardships and problems they are facing so that he can urge the state to take initiatives for their welfare. But there are fake artistes who came to this field only to do business and just for money, he stated. They are the enemies of the real artistes and the people should face them together, he added.
He urged the senior artistes to keep written documents on Manipuri traditional folk music; about the keys and notes so that they may become useful in the future, even for educational purposes.
President of MMDMC, Laitonjam Ahanjao Singh, State Kala Akademi awardee, Lourembam Bedabati, president of WDA, Patsoi Part II, Wahengbam Memcha Devi and president of PAMYAL, Patsoi Part II, Wahengbam Maipak attended the function as president and guests of honours respectively.
