GRPC warns for penalty against use of JCB in Gundung river
KANGPOKPI | Apr 15 : It its untiring attempt to protect and preserve Gundung river, Gundung River Protection Committee (GRPC) has restricted using of JCB in any proposes along the river and warned of huge penalty upon violators.
General secretary of GRPC, Nehkam Kipgen has recalled the resolution adopted in the joint meeting of all village chief along with the labourers working in the river on August 13 last year and its implementation since then with an aim to preserve and protect the river.
He also recalled the restriction of quarrying in the river using JCB, fishing with electric current or dynamo and prohibition of quarry labourers to encroach or work near at the base of paddy field and residential areas.
He said that thousand labourers engage in the quarry activities along the river during daytime and when heavy machineries are used, the labourers are vastly affected economically apart from exceedingly damaging the river. He further said that no one shall engage heavy machineries including JCB in making roadway for the public through the river without prior consultation with the committee.
The GRPC secretary has also warned that as resolved in the joint meeting, the committee will be compelled to fine with a sum of Rs.30,000 to any violators of the restrictions while adding that GRPC will strictly monitor activities along the river.
