Measles - Rubella vaccination campaign held
CHURACHANDPUR | Mar 12 : Media workshop for Measles -Rubella vaccination campaign was held today at DFWO6 conference hall of district hospital Manipur.
At the occasion conducted under the initiative of UNICIF, WHO and National Health Mission, RRO-WHO, Dr. Girvar S. Baria attended as the main speaker. The media workshop was also attended by CMO of Churachandpur district, Dr. Kim Simte and DFWO, Dr. Jamthianlal who spoke about measles and rubella.
Dr. Baria said that measles and rubella are viral infection which is highly communicable. The disease once contacted, cannot be cured and prevention is the only answer, he said.
The doctor said that every year, more than 40000 children aged under 15 years have died by the disease and in India, 17198 case of rubella was detected in 2016 while 6591 cases were detected 2017. Vaccination is now a must for all as Rubella leads to blindness, deafness and mental retardation and others, he asserted.
The DFWO said that the role of media to bring awareness is huge and vital and so the Media workshops has been organised. He urged for the participation of media persons in the campaign. The CMO also said that they are undertaking micro planning as the campaign is in progress and the medical department will go to different sub division to collect facts and figures very soon.
He further said that when pregnant women contacts Rubella, they have a high degree of suffering from attack which is called Congenial Rubella Syndrome (CRS) that will lead the child to be born disabled. It is prevalent more among children aged from 9 month to 15 years. It can cause many forms of health complications.
This campaign was the First Measles and Rubella initiative taken in India and it will be launched all over India in a few months time, he informed. There are no diagnostics measures organised prior to the current initiative taken by the government of India, he added.
The official said that one fatal case was reported so far at Gothel village of Henglep sub division and the campaign will be intensified at the location where the infection was detected recently, he stated.
The measles and rubella campaign will be held at DTC hall, Tuibong in the coming days for Churachandpur and Samulanlan block for the staffs of government schools, ADC run schools and government aided schools. It will be held at Singat, Thanlon, Henglep and Tipaimuk sub division before March 20 for which District Task Force had a meeting recently.
In a press statement by DFWO, it said that the attendance of education and medical staff and others will be taken very seriously as the campaign was made by a joint effort of the State and the Centre. The media workshop was attended by all media persons of Churachandpur.
