NPF threatens to pull out of Biren ministry
President of NPF state unit, Morung Makunga told a press conference held at Manipur press club today that “though NPF is coalition partner, the present government is working on breaking up of NPF at Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) by forcibly converting NPF members to BJP.”
Citing instances of creating misunderstandings between BJP and NPF, he said that out of the six ADCs, three are ruled by NPF and the BJP is trying to bring NPF ADC members into its fold.
Morung said Chandel ADC is supposed to be governed by forming an alliance between BJP and NPF, but it failed due to political machinations by BJP in crucial stages. “This is not a right move. However NPF bears it,” he said.
Morung said, “It might be a joke but insisting ADC members to convert to BJP by chief minister in one of the informal conversation in the presence of MLA of Ukhrul constituency is condemnable. We can take it as an insult to NPF.”
Like BJP, NPF is also concerned about strengthening the party, he maintained. “We are keenly observing bullying tactics of the present government. If such condition continues, some unwanted situation may arise that will give major impact to both the parties,” he cautioned.
It is mandatory to send report of the party to party head office at Kohima. The NPF has to send all these scenarios right after Nagaland Assembly election. As per response from the head office the party has to perform the task. If the state government continues to undermine the NPF, the possibility of directing the Manipur unit NPF to leave the coalition government by party head office is quite high as the NPF ditched BJP in Nagaland, he warned.
General Secretary of NPF Manipur unit Honreikhui Kashung lamented about under development of hill districts, despite government’s “go to hills policy.”
Except on national highways development there is no development activities in interior parts of the hills, he charged. Honreikhui said to ensure a stable government, NPF supports the government. But in contrary the government is trying to finish off NPF at the ADCs level.
The fund meant for ADCs is not released in time. Despite its promise to root out corruption the government is taking percentage from the welfare fund. “The present government should take the matter seriously otherwise the possibility of withdrawing NPF from the government is high,” he warned.
