Unity stressed on AMUCO’s silver jubilee
Speakers at the function today emphasised the need for a united Manipur and do away the hill-valley gap which had clouded the state for the past decades.
Former minister and president of Senior Citizen for Society, Manipur, R.V. Mingthing appreciated the chief minister’s slogan “Go to the Hills” and said the unity among the hills and the valley will come only when both are able to dine together. Meiteis of the valley should not disseminate unity only in the valley but should literally go to the hills and spread unity and so should the hill people, he pointed out.
Professor Joykumar said Manipur is a plural society and the leaders should be able to see this plural society as one, then only it will be able to bring peace, unity, integrity and development. Democracy has created differences between the communities of the state, he added.
Manipur is a state of the contractor, by the contractor and for the contractor and in this very critical phase, CSOs should take a very important role, he lamented. Works minister Thongam Biswajit Singh, attended the function as chief guest. He said AMUCO was born in a remarkable historical period of the state and so does played very important role in the development of the state.
He acknowledged AMUCO’s contributions as a civil society, the responsibilities it has taken to benefit the society. He urged them to work with positive attitude and go forward and to bring trust and development for the people.
President of AMUCO, Ph Devan recalled how AMUCO has played as a mediator to community clashes many a times and assured that it will continue to serve to bring peace, unity and development.
The grand celebration was also attended by president of UCM, Johnson Elangbam, advisor to Kuki Inpi Manipur, Thangkhosei Haokip, president of Zeliangrong Union, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, Amu Kamei, joint editor of MARUP, Agartala, R.K. Tarunjit Singh, president of All Manipur Muslim Development organisation, DP. Shahid Ahamad among others.
The event also has participation from representatives of Integrated Manipuri Association (IMA), Committee of Civil Societies, Kangleipak (CCSK), Mao Union, Aimol Tribe Union Manipur, Manipuri Cultural Society and Komrem Union and so on. As a part of the celebration, official website of AMUCO, www.amuco.in and souvenir relating to the 25 years journey of AMUCO was launched today by the dignitaries.
Former presidents, leaders and other social workers who have contributed in the peaceful co-existence of the state were respected and paid homage today. A two-minute silence was also observed as a remembrance to the departed souls of AMUCO.
