School vandalised in student’s death case
IMPHAL | September 2: Angry residents of Langol Zone- II vandalized the building of Residential Kids Care School today evening to protest the death of a student of this school.
The attack came after the death of Tongbram Suresh, 16, on August 28 after school authorities reportedly left him in a precarious state the day before.
The school had remained closed following a notice served by a student body after the matter came to light in the media. The family of the deceased had alleged that Suresh had telltale injury marks on his body which was presumed to be inflicted when he was at the boarding of the school.
Founder and warden of the school were arrested and a case has been registered of ‘unnatural death’ on August 29. The school, having student strength of around 400 and a boarding facility remained vacant for the last few days after parents took away the students fearing trouble.
In a related development JAC against the killing of the student condemned the school authorities during a public meeting held at Toupokpi of Bishnupur district today.
Co-convener of the JAC RK Tombisana Devi, president of MSF CI College Unit P Suman, general secretary of SSUM N Tanuranjan Singh, director of Childline Bishnupur L Pishak Singh and Pradhan of Thinungei Gram Panchayat Joychandra attended the meeting.
Tombisana Devi claimed investigation by the JAC revealed that Suresh was severely beaten by the school warden resulting in his death.
She demanded action against the school authority and the warden for their heinous crime.
Placards reading “Residential Kids Care School a place for killing students”, “Punish the school authority”, “Schools which murders student must be banned” etc. were used by the protestors.
The meeting also resolved that the school authority should make public confession of their crime. It also resolved to ban the school forever for killing a student for not clearing boarding fees.
It decided to construct a children park in place of the school in memory of Suresh and take legal action against those who support the school authority.
A rally was taken out by the protestors after the meeting. Students of Public School, Sadar Patel High School and Model High School at Ningthoukhong participated in the rally.
Later, a memorandum containing the resolutions was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur.
Police were deployed at the meeting venue and rally route to prevent any flare up.
